ERNEST P. GATES, JR., R.PH, FASCP, FIACP, PRESIDENT, GATES HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATES

Ernest P. Gates is the President of Gates Healthcare Associates, where he provides strategic advice, counsel, and support to a broad cross-section of health care organizations, including hospitals, physician practices, pharmacies, and professional associations.

A pharmacist and entrepreneur, he is a pioneer in the fields of pharmacy compounding and fertility medication. Gates founded and later sold Gates Apothecary, one of the largest compounding pharmacies in the U.S., which became Freedom Drug and then Priority Health Care. Gates has consulted nationally to physician groups on the topics of women’s health and compounds for fertility and hormone replacement therapy. He has won numerous awards and honors, including the 2009 Honorary Fellowship Award from the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists. Clients across the world often seek Mr. Gates’ guidance on the development of compounding pharmacies and their related licensure, certification, and accreditation.

Mr. Gates developed the lozenge mold, a tool commonly used in compounding pharmacies today.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where he is a Trustee Emeritus.


Dennis LyonsDENNIS LYONS, BS, R.PH, SENIOR ASSOCIATE, GATES HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATES

Dennis Lyons is Senior Associate of Gates Healthcare Associates.

Mr. Lyons is an accomplished and experienced pharmacy and health care professional with extensive experience in public, private and academic organizations at the senior management level. He has consulted with many boards, public officials, health care leaders, and professional associations on health policy, care delivery, and cost. He is also a lecturer on regulatory affairs topics.

Prior to joining Gates Healthcare Associates, Mr. Lyons served as Vice President of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), in charge of the school’s Worcester, Mass., and Manchester, NH campuses. In a previous role with the College, he served as Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs. He also served as President and Co-Founder of Pharmaceutical Strategies, Inc. and was Director of the Drug Utilization Review program for the Massachusetts Division of Medical Assistance (Medicaid) and for Maine Medicaid.

Mr. Lyons holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and is a registered pharmacist.


Charles YoungCHARLES YOUNG, R.PH, CFE SENIOR ASSOCIATE FOR REGULATORY AFFAIRS AND COMPLIANCE, GATES HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATES

Charles ("Chuck") Young, R.Ph., CFE is a Senior Associate for Regulatory Affairs and Compliance at Gates Healthcare Associates. He recently joined the firm following more than twenty years with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. During his tenure there, he served as investigator and later Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Young has extensive regulatory experience both at the local and national level where he has served as a member of the Executive Committee and Treasurer of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy ("NABP"). In addition, he also received the Honorary President Award from NABP.

Mr. Young has also served as Pharmacy Manager in the Office of Clinical Affairs at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, MassHealth Division. His area of specialty is in controlled substance loss prevention and he has received distinct recognition for his work from the Department of Justice, DEA, for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Drug Law Enforcement. He also received the Betsy Lehman Patient Safety Award 2006 for patient safety and quality improvement and regulatory compliance. Chuck currently is a member of the Mass. Pharmacists Association Foundation Board of Directors, where he served as Interim President in 2010.


Charles YoungTHOMAS MORRISON, R.PH, SENIOR ASSOCIATE, GATES HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATES

Tom Morrison is a Senior Associate at Gates Healthcare Associates.

He recently joined the firm after 35 years at CVS Caremark, where he was a member of the senior management team. He served as Senior Vice President of Payer Relations and Business Development, supporting the Minute Clinic division in an effort to reorganize and relocate their business from Minneapolis, MN to Woonsocket, RI. He also served the company in roles within Store Operations, Pharmacy Marketing, Pharmacy Purchasing, and Managed Care activities. For three years, Mr. Morrison helped create and develop PharmaCare, for CVS. He was also influential in developing and implementing CVS Health Connection, which currently provides clinical and cognitive services in multiple practice settings. Mr. Morrison obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and is a registered pharmacist.
